Court allows for shielding of witnesses in Dasuki’s trial

Government witnesses in the case against former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki can have

their identities shielded.

Granting the request this Thursday, a federal high court in Abuja accepted the prosecution’s argument that the measure was needed for the safety of the witnesses.

But in his argument, Ahmed Raji, counsel to Dasuki said the request was not tenable as the former NSA was not facing terrorism or treason charges.

Justice Mohammed however held that the law permits that for the offence for which Dasuki is being prosecuted the protection of witnesses is paramount.

He ordered that prosecution witnesses be shielded with a screen during trial.
